What's the worst thing you've ever found in a Haynes manual?

I think I just found a new champion, in the E30 one:

Loosen the nut on the track rod balljoint stud, and free the balljoint stud from the steering arm using a balljoint separator. In the absence of a separator tool, try giving the steering arm a few light blows with a hammer.

Having just rebuilt the front suspension of my Alfa Romeo Spider, I can tell you that it works. Tapping the steering arm or sets up a vibration that pops the tapered tie rod ends right out of their holes. It also works with ball joints. I loosened but didn't remove the retaining nut and let the spring assist with popping it loose.

To remove rotor, unscrew the holding pin and slide the rotor off (Integra)

They of course mean a dead blow hammer or a big ass rubber mallet.

Second, why are you using a Haynes manual? You need this - http://www.amazon.com/BMW-Series-E30…

They're both good but yeah, that Bentley manual is excellent. I have physical copies of both but there may or may not also be pdf copies of both out there.

I have that too (on pdf, only bought the car three days ago), but don't really use manuals that much. I maybe browse one with my coffee before working on the car. I mainly read the Haynes for the laughs. Haven't had the E30 long at all, but it seems a particularly useless one. Had one for my old Toyota that wasn't too bad, apart from the usual Haynes stuff of 'gently prise away clip' meaning that you needed to use biblical force, and so-on.

This one's pretty typical, given that the usual advice along those lines is 'whang it as hard as you can'. A light tap is what I use to assemble a watch.

You'd have saved me thirty seconds on piratebay if I'd known that last night. I decided to download it anyway, but did wonder if it was typical bad torrent naming. I haven't really looked yet, but if it's any good I'll buy a copy.

There is no chance of me springing for the Haynes, though. Unless they put a joke one out as a PDF on bittorrent just for the laughs, and the real thing is in some way useful.
